Update: Link Shortening on X

Twitter is now called X, and several things in this guide have changed. Posts can now be up to 280 characters long, and X automatically wraps every link in its own t.co short link, which always counts as 23 characters no matter how long the original URL is. That means shortening a link no longer saves space in a post. Link shorteners are still useful in other ways: they show how many people clicked, they make long links easier to share in emails, messages, and print, and branded short domains help people recognize your links.

Before you shorten a link, keep in mind that readers can’t see where a short link leads, so some people hesitate to click it.
